Dryer Safety Hazard

The pictures that I'm showing here is of a used dryer that was sold locally here in Boise.  The company that sold the dryer had removed all of the safety thermostat wiring to prevent the thermostats from "blowing" due to an overheat condition and thus avert a irate call back to the shop for them to "fix the dryer you sold us.

Folks, these safety thermostats are there for a reason and they are VERY important.  If your house vent is restricted it will cause the dryer to overheat.  These thermostats are meant to blow and thus prevent a overheat condition and avert a potential fire.  They will also prevent a over-current condition which is shown in one of the photos.  When wires burn like this the electricity should be shut down by the very components that this company had bypassed.

This Boise company has been warned to quit what they are doing.  I have seen at least five of these dryers and I inform my customers that the dryer is junk and I will not take the responsibility of fixing a unsafe dryer.  We do not want to have a house burn down and have anything be attributed to our company, Western Appliance.  Please be aware folks!

GE refrigerator defrost operation

This is a good video on how the defrost heater works on a GE Refrigerator.  You can see by the pic how intense the heat is.  This heat is what defrosts the ice buildup on the evaporator coils.  Regular defrost operation lasts approximately 20 minutes and occurs every 8-10 hours.  If you hear a "sizzling" sound coming from the inside of your freezer, this is what you are hearing.  Our phone number is 208-863-3702 for all appliance repair issues.

Dryer with no airflow

This whirlpool cabriolet had no airflow though the drum.  This particular dryer has a separate blower fan which rotates via a pulley, as you see in pic.  The pulley threads were stripped and it had come off the shaft

GE Appliance Repair

Hi Folks, Whew, what a day.  Ran into a GE refrigerator today that wasn't working properly.  It was a bottom mount, meaning that the freezer is located in the bottom and the refrigerator on the top.  These appliance work very well but like everything, then need a little maintenance now and then.  Check out this control board mess!  It looks kinda intimidating for the layman.  Actually, working with electronics day in and day out, it's not so intimidating with me anymore.  In this day and age, electronic appliances are the norm.  Anyway, here at Western Appliance Repair, we fix this type of things and even more.  Here we go, does this not look like a bunch of spaghetti?  :->

Washer Repair - Boise Appliance Repair

Washer and Washing Machine History
Washing machines developed to reduce the hardship of the hand-washing process by using a sealed tub with paddles or fingers to agitate the clothing. The first machines were hand-operated.  Electricity was not available to every household until around 1930.
Water often had to be toted, heated on a fire for washing, and then poured into the tub.  This warm soapy water was precious and would be reused again, first to wash the least soiled clothing, then to wash dirtier laundry.  The earliest machine tubs were made from wood, later machines that were made of metal allowed a fire to burn below the washtub.
